My Baby Sim virtual baby game for iOS

Category: Accessible Games

Post 1 by midnight sun (you can't catch me, i'm the palobread man) on Tuesday, 05-May-2015 3:11:37

For those who, like me, love sim games of this kind, this is the best one I've found so far, and the only one that is almost fully accessible.
You have to take care of a baby from 1 to 4 months old. I say almost accessible because there is something I at least consider a minor issue. When you feed the baby, after you choose the bottle you have to find it and drag it up to the baby. The bottle is always to the very left edge of the screen, almost to the center but closer to the bottom. I hope this makes sense... just drag it a bit to the right and up until you hear the sound of the baby drinking. When it does, keep moving your finger just a very little bit and the baby will keep drinking until it's full. If you think you've lost the bottle, move your finger around very close and you'll find it again. If nothing happens, it might be because the baby doesn't want to eat anymore, or fell asleep while eating. If so, you'll see that in the log.It sounds difficult, but I've become good at this and it's no longer a problem for me, though I understand it can be for others.
For the rest, the beginner level in both training and game mode is fully accessible. The advanced level isn't unless you have a bit of sight, as it is even more detailed. You have to make every move it takes to dress/change the baby, you have to warm up the milk or bath water as the bar goes from green to orange to red, or something like that. Green is too cold, red is too hot, and if you mess up you can damage the baby. In beginner mode you don't have to worry about this.
Just a warning, this game was made for people who are going to have a baby or want to try the real experience, which means it's as realistic as it can be, though I hope they will add more things in any future updates.
This means the baby will call for attention at any time of day and night, and it won't take a simple tap on the screen to put it to sleep or make it happy. You'll have to figure out the baby's needs and satisfy them. The log will help with that. If you're willing to wake up more than twice at night to take care of your baby, you'll be fine.
As the baby grows from 1 to 4 months you will notice difference in its behavior and needs. For example it will sleep less often in the day and longer at night, and other things. I really do like this game. And as I said, it's the only accessible one I've found so far in my rather long unlucky search.
I know, there's baby adopter, but to put it short, in my opinion it sucks and it's boring, though the idea is really nice and with some real changes it would be a really cool game.
If you try this game and need any help feel free to ask me. And if you find similar games that are accessible, I'll be soooo happy to know about them.

I had wondered about the baby bottle thing.thanks for posting. Might get back to it now I know what to do with that part. I thought you actually had to make the bottle. You know, fill it with formula ... Anyway, thanks.

Post 3 by battle star queen (I just keep on posting!) on Saturday, 18-Jul-2015 17:58:02

I know the last update to this game broke voiceover support, however, I'm happy to let you know that voiceover support is working again, and the game is even more accessable. You don't have to drag the bottle when feeding the baby, just double-tap on it, this is in beginner mode, not sure about advanced. And all of the meters, such as food, energy, and comfort are spoken. The only issue I've found is that the notifications are hit and miss. Sometimes the baby cries for attention, and other times it doesn't.

Post 4 by Reyami (I've broken five thousand! any more awards going?) on Sunday, 19-Jul-2015 6:05:43

so much more realistic than that stupid baby adopter game ...

Post 5 by LeoGuardian (You mean there is something outside of this room with my computer in it?) on Monday, 20-Jul-2015 17:15:08

It's all fun and games till the baby poohs in your lap, pees on your leg and pukes in your ear.

Post 6 by sia fan bp (I'm going for the prolific poster awards!) on Thursday, 10-Sep-2015 20:06:22

Oh god, you don't want to know the history I had. I killed two. One was a little adorable baby named Sia. (I was too bored) Another had my name. I wasn't careful and... well, they both quit on me. I'm taking care of one named Jackie. It's the best game if you want to become a parent.

Post 7 by sia fan bp (I'm going for the prolific poster awards!) on Thursday, 10-Sep-2015 20:08:11

lol, agrees with leo. I took care with my nephew and... let's say I had a rough time. :d

Post 8 by UniqueOne (I'll have the last word, thank you!) on Saturday, 21-Nov-2015 21:03:51

Oh wow I have never heard of this game! I've never played sim games before. Odd question I know..but does it matter at what time of day you sign up for? Also, does anyone know if the advancement mode has improved? Thanks so much I'll be sure to check this out!

Post 9 by midnight sun (you can't catch me, i'm the palobread man) on Saturday, 21-Nov-2015 21:11:15

Time of day? No, the months last 48 or 96 hours depending if you're playing training or game mode, but it doesn't matter what time you sign up.
Advanced mode honestly I haven't tried it yet. They fixed accessibility but broke the notifications, so I keep losing my baby because it doesn't wake me up or call for attention at all anymore.

Post 10 by UniqueOne (I'll have the last word, thank you!) on Saturday, 21-Nov-2015 21:22:48

Aww..that's sad! I wonder what the difference between game mode and training? Like, the training baby isn't real? lol..

Post 11 by Frozen Teardrop (Veteran Zoner) on Saturday, 21-Nov-2015 21:33:56

i've played a lot. Advanced mode is fine. the only thing i found is i have to turn
off voice over to take off the diaper. just turn it off and swipe either left or right
on the screen and turn it back on again. same for putting the diaper on again.
the heating of bath water works fine. i haven't had to heat the bottle or
anything.

Post 12 by battle star queen (I just keep on posting!) on Wednesday, 25-Nov-2015 12:10:24

The difference between game mode and training mode is just the amount of time you play threw each month. In training mode, you play for two days, then the game ends. In game mode, you play for a couple weeks, raising the baby from one to four months old. When you play in game mode, the length of each month is 96 hours, and you can save your game every 24 hours.

Post 13 by midnight sun (you can't catch me, i'm the palobread man) on Wednesday, 25-Nov-2015 14:44:19

I think you can change the baby's age in training mode too, to start from 1 month old and play for about a week.

Post 14 by UniqueOne (I'll have the last word, thank you!) on Friday, 27-Nov-2015 22:21:01

did they fix the notifications? I'm going to sign up for this game and if anyone wants to I can keep you posted on my progress

Post 15 by midnight sun (you can't catch me, i'm the palobread man) on Saturday, 28-Nov-2015 11:25:00

It hasn't been updated in a while so probably not, but I haven't been playing for a while

Post 16 by midnight sun (you can't catch me, i'm the palobread man) on Saturday, 28-Nov-2015 13:29:26

I haven't played not only for the broken notification but also because I don't think I have the physical and mental energy to wake up over and over at night and keep up with this lately. I need to take a break and that game just won't let you. Just like a real baby wouldn't.

Post 17 by UniqueOne (I'll have the last word, thank you!) on Saturday, 28-Nov-2015 15:58:31

well..I lost. It doesn't wake you up or notify you in any way that the baby needs anything. Not until you open the app. I just thought I'd let everyone know. Glad it's free though and it was interesting until I woke up this morning and realized, "hey, wasn't I supposed to be wakened up?" lol!

Post 18 by midnight sun (you can't catch me, i'm the palobread man) on Saturday, 28-Nov-2015 20:20:52

Which is exactly why I stopped playing for now. lol

Post 19 by battle star queen (I just keep on posting!) on Thursday, 24-Dec-2015 11:32:55

The game has been updated, and now you get notifications when the baby wakes up. And if you are in game mode, you will also get a notification when you can save your progress.

Post 20 by LeoGuardian (You mean there is something outside of this room with my computer in it?) on Friday, 25-Dec-2015 2:11:33

Well if notifications didn't work you could consider it practice for the challenge of
an extra quiet baby, something some parents have to deal with.

Now, they maybe should make you guys a My Teenager Sim game. That way it
would do all kinds of fun things to your phone hehe probably post to Snapchat
or take selfies and the like. Good part is, if you don't wake it up, it will wake up
by noon or so. On the other hand, if you wake it up, say in time for school, it
will be cranky.
I wanna see them make a teenager sim game for you guys. I'd read the posts
you make about that and get a kick out of it.

Post 21 by Reyami (I've broken five thousand! any more awards going?) on Friday, 25-Dec-2015 5:21:17

That would be hilarious. no, wait, a game to simulate the toddler stage, complete with tantrums, screaming, crying when they don't get their way, etc. i'd also love to see a game involving the stage that probably fits right in with some of the previously-mentioned stuff since that tends to linger, the stage when children always ask the questions, "Why," and "How come?"

Post 22 by LeoGuardian (You mean there is something outside of this room with my computer in it?) on Saturday, 26-Dec-2015 17:42:11

Toddlers and teenagers have a lot in common. You get that calm from between
six or so until almost 12. The eye of the storm, as it were.

Lol, I never minded the question "why". My problem was, I noticed curiosity
about things tapered off when teenage years hit, and didn't pick up until late
teens early 20s. You miss that in your kids. There's nothing to be curious about
who is wearing what, and how everyone will think of you as you walk through
the rain. Lol but I am by nature a curious person, so, I enjoyed it when the
daughter was curious about her world before teenage doldrums set in and now
again afterwards when she's in her 20s.

Haha I love it. all of those games would be awesome.

Post 24 by UniqueOne (I'll have the last word, thank you!) on Sunday, 27-Dec-2015 20:13:25

Haha those would be awesome so funny!!! Well, not so much fun in real life..my niece and nephew are 7 and 5 and the niece doing random screaming to my nephew's never listening to his mom..it is for sure a challenge!

Post 25 by pinkstrawberry (Zone BBS Addict) on Saturday, 30-Apr-2016 21:47:32

I love the baby sim game but they need to add more things for us to do with the baby. the baby just ly down in a stroller in the park doing nothing. and when you get a notification that the toy broke that means that the baby dropped the rattle. I'm glad that they added a playground but you still can't do nothing there. And even though this isn't in any of the menus, to massage the baby's tummy, just put your finger anywhere on the screen until you hear a click then hold it down and move your finger gently from left to rite. then check the log an you should see good massage 3 exclamation marks. And I'm glad that they added the option to take away the pacifier.

Post 26 by Reyami (I've broken five thousand! any more awards going?) on Sunday, 01-May-2016 15:59:33

They should add an option to put the baby in a swing instead of in the cradle or stroller all the time. Leaving him lying down in one position like that isn't good for his skull. Putting baby on the floor and letting him play there is also good, and encourages him to figure out how to roll over and control his head movements as as he develops. plus he gets to see more of the world from different positions. Wearing the baby should also be an option, too.
Other toys than the rattle should also be added, like a mobile, (the thing with dangly toys that hangs over the crib, not sure what it's called outside the US), or gym where baby can actually move their arms and legs and bat at or otherwise manipulate toys that make different sounds. Noisy, colorful toys they can reach, (minus the mobile), start to help babies understand that they can have control over their environment and can make things happen as much as adults in their lives.
Actually, that might be for an older infant, which is why this should take people through the first year of caring for an infant, not only the first four months. Learning about feeding babies different-stage baby food as they grow, weaning from bottle to said food and eventually a sippy cup, teaching them how to use a spoon, (or at least letting them explore the spoon and finger foods), taking them to social situations other than the park or playground, (like to see family or a pediatrician), helping them learn to sit up, crawl, and maybe take the first couple of steps, reading to them, having them play with age-appropriate toys, talking to them, dealing with teething, sleep issues, and separation anxiety--these are all part of being a parent, and I think this game has so much potential.
That's probably going to require a shitload of coding and may significantly increase the size of the game in future updates if the developers ever decide to implement the baby-care features I have just suggested, but it'll be worth it if people get a real sense of what it's like to care for a virtual baby beyond the first four months.

Post 27 by pinkstrawberry (Zone BBS Addict) on Sunday, 01-May-2016 17:58:57

I did suggest some of those things to the developers. but maybe Reyami, you could write all your suggestions to the developers and hear what they have to say. I do follow them on facebook and they said that they are making a big update so that should hopefully come soon. I know they said that the new location to take your baby would be to a lake. I showed this game to my mom and she said the baby looks kind of robotic except for the asion one. The baby doesn't move just stays there. and when you tap on the rattle the baby would be holding it. you just have to shake your phone. and for the outfits some people might be confused by this. for example if you put on a pink 1 piece then you go to the outerwear and select a dress, that pink 1 piece is going to come off and be replaced by the dress. because people thinking that you have to put on the under-wear and outerwear at the same time. All the 1 piece suits are like jumper outfits for the baby to wear home. and any or all of the outerwear are to be worn when the baby is out at the park or playground. An when you tap on bathe the baby the baby is just lying there in a bath tub of water. So instead of us having to watch the baby bath, in future I hope we get to really bathe the baby. I suggested all those things to the developer.

iww, not happening. :d lol

Post 31 by pinkstrawberry (Zone BBS Addict) on Monday, 02-May-2016 21:43:50

if I play the game often I think I could make the game last without the aby diing. I did play in game mode and it lasted 16 days and it took me more than 16 days because I kept saving it after the 24 hour checkpoint. And when I made sure it was saved I left the game for a few days then continued to save it. I feed her before I go to sleep and I would just wake up like after 3 hours then take care of her and then go back to sleep and wake at 6 and take care again.

Post 32 by sia fan bp (I'm going for the prolific poster awards!) on Monday, 02-May-2016 22:27:34

I can't do that. The waking up a lot thing.

Post 33 by pinkstrawberry (Zone BBS Addict) on Tuesday, 03-May-2016 15:31:38

its not really waking up a lot. at what ever time you go to sleep at night just change and feed the baby give rattle and go to sleep. I sleep light so when the baby cries I wake up but I always wake up after 3 or 4 hours. Especially in the evening time I always let the food level go down 2 about 29 or 23 percent so when I feed her she will be good for a long time. and if you manage to play for 1 day when you click save and your progress is uploaded you could click give up and then return to the game any time you want from the saved checkpoint.

Post 34 by sia fan bp (I'm going for the prolific poster awards!) on Tuesday, 03-May-2016 15:43:13

ok, I'll try that then. I really miss that game. I deleted it, had it back, and
deleted it like 2 months ago.

Post 35 by LeoGuardian (You mean there is something outside of this room with my computer in it?) on Tuesday, 03-May-2016 16:23:58

Clicking Give Up is in real life dropping off the baby at one of those safe baby centers. Or now, some states have, the Baby Box, a place where you can drop off a newborn from an outside opening to a fire station into a climate-controlled container that will alert an emergency personnel to come get it.

Post 36 by pinkstrawberry (Zone BBS Addict) on Tuesday, 03-May-2016 17:31:48

well this is a game and I don't think the developers thought of the process of the game before releasing it. if you compare a real baby to that game it would be way different. some babies sleep really long. but some past updates the notifications were goin off like crazy and when I check the baby doesn't need anything. sometimes I hear 10 babies crying at once I just got fedup and quit the game.

Post 37 by LeoGuardian (You mean there is something outside of this room with my computer in it?) on Tuesday, 03-May-2016 17:35:00

If you ever have a baby, you'll find out they wake up and cry and don't want anything either, except to be picked up and walked around for awhile.

Post 38 by pinkstrawberry (Zone BBS Addict) on Tuesday, 03-May-2016 17:58:31

hi leo I understand what you're saying. but this game you can't really do much. the baby is like a robot. the baby doesn't move. if you tap on take baby in your arms there would be a picture of a lady holding the baby. show the game to anyone who is sighted and go through all the menus it is exactly what it is. if the baby is in the park or play-ground she just lys in the stroller not moving doing nothing. I hope the developers fix all of that because I wrote them a long message explaining how to make the game better. Because if a dad is playing the game and he clicks on take baby in your arms there would still be a picture of a lady holding the baby. that's why I said that the developers didn't think it through before releasing the game. and they need to make the baby giggle some times. even if the baby is happy she still sounds fussy. and when you tap on bathe the baby you only getting to watch or hear the baby take a bath because she just stays still in a bath tub of water.

because that baby needs to giggle, move, and all that. Be active! My baby

month olds are more active IMO. :)

the water. if they made the playground free, that'd be awesome! :) I haven't
updated the game yet but might check the update thingy on the app store. it
takes longer for my old Iphone to update stuff. but i'm glad for the update.

the lake isn't free. cost 5 credits. and you asked how to rub the baby's tummy. put your finger anywhere on the screen and you would hear a click. then, hold and move your finger from left to right gently on the screen. then check the log you should see I feel great or something like that.

the only thing is that the credits are to expensive for me where I live. so I make do with what I have. I wish there was a way to earn a few credits a day from listening to all the adds. because its not like the adds are free. When you listen to an add the developers get paid.

There is one major butg with the new update. Whenever you try to go in to the save list to pick a checkpoint, voiceover just says empty list. I wrote the devs on facebook about this issue, and they responded, saying that they'll have this issue fixed soon. Another thing you can't seem to do is rub the baby's tummy anymore.
